Sreedevi Santhosh
Summary
The study titled “Ormakurippukal” (Memory Jottings): Region specific study of life
writings by women of Kerala compares and contrasts gender identities of women in the
Malayalam context. These identities are mediated by spatial representation in the turn of the
century Kerala. Identity claims are interpreted through evaluating the narratives of one-time
writers recording their cultural memories. The primary texts chosen for study are
Antharjanam: Memoirs of a Namboodiri woman by Devaki Nilayamgode, The
Autobiography of a Nun by Sister Jesme, The Autobiography of a Sex worker by Nalini
Jameela and The life journey of a young malayali woman by Vinaya.
