The Rock Art of Karachi
The book, Rock Art of Karachi is a unique document on Rock art heritage of metropolitan city of Karachi to provide literature on rock art of Sind- Pakistan for further study on this subject. Sindh was the junction of the ancient cultures and routes. Travellers, invaders, merchants, pilgrims and artisans from different ages and cultures used the legendary silk route and its branches to enter in this region. Many of them left their cultural and religious signs on the rocks, boulders, and cliffs.
The spirit of publishing this book is to give an insight to the world about our rich ‘rock art heritage’. It offers a new way of understanding a cosmopolitan city of Karachi which is continuously expanding to devour the cultural landscape. A research on this topic with reference to Karachi is long overdue. Especially now, its need is all the greater and more urgent. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Kalhoro has arranged the facts systematically which are scattered over a span of many centuries in a form of symbols, signs and inscriptions and artwork on the sun-tanned smooth rocks of this city.
We hope this will help create a community of readers passionate about heritage of Sindh and will foster principles of research and create network of collaboration and, most importantly, create public awareness of this fragile and irreplaceable global heritage.
